August recap

Hello lovely blog friends,

August is gone- honestly, how did it fly by so fast?- and so, fall is here.

As you know, I was MIA for some time because of my dissertation and now I can proudly say that I have finished it, submitted and can call myself a happy unemployed girl, not student anymore :)

Unfortunately, I didn't have as much luck with my job hunt, so I have to go back home to Bucharest, Romania in a couple of weeks, and I am rather sad about it- London is a fantastic city and I feel like I belong here, more than my hometown. But life goes on, and so will I- I'm sure there are a number of great opportunities waiting for me there, as well.

You'll still love me even if I'm not in London anymore, right? :)

Anyway, moving on to the very short recap of the month:

Movies
Vera Drake [2004]
Garden State [2004]
Searching for Sugar Man [2012]
Submarine [2011]
On the road [2012]
Dirty Dancing [1987]- for the 1000th time
Moulin Rouge [2001]
Brave [2012]

Books 2 (YA novel, Looking for Alaska)

I have some serious catching up to do if I am going to resolve my New Year Resolutions, I better get on it.

September looks like a much more interesting, free month for me and I plan to read, write and watch a lot of things, now that I have officially ended my academic journey.

I hope you all have a great month!

Diana

p.s. In a couple of days, Aziza's Picks turns one year old :D happy times, gonna celebrate with an interesting, revealing post, I hope!

  1. Happy early blogging birthday, Diana, and hope your free month goes well! I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Was Looking for Alaska any good btw? I have heard great things about it, but I seem to find myself at a dead-end when it comes to young adult fiction. Though I think it is a wonderful thing to have books directed for readers of that age group, the majority of books that can be considered for that market (which I've probably just passed, considering my age now) have been really patronising, very stereotypical, and often quite sexist (to men).

    1. Forgot to mention, also, good luck with your job hunt! It took me far too long to find a job after leaving my last job, so don't worry, you're not alone!

    2. Thank you for the lovely comment, I really appreciate it! I really liked Looking for Alaska, it's my second John Green book after Fault in our stars, which I also loved. Looking for Alaska is a pretty typical coming of age, teenager story, but the second part, the "conflict", is very intriguing and sad. You should read it. For me, Young Adult novels are a guilty pleasure, an escape read from everything else, all the drama. Some are very good- John Green is a wonderful writer, you should try reading some of his books.

Aww we'll all still love you Diana. Romania seems like an uber-cool place. I hope you get lots of opportunities there :)

Also what, pray tell, did you think of Moulin Rouge!?

    1. Yeah, Looking for Alaska was pretty shocking, I didn't expect it, but I liked it overall, although it was a bit depressing and sad. Still, John Green is a great writer, I love him! As for Moulin Rouge, I liked it, but wasn't that much in love with it as you are. A review will be up soon, probably tomorrow or Monday :)

  3. Looking for Alaska is great! If you liked it, I'd recommend An Abundance of Katherines and Paper Towns.

Good luck with the job hunt. I'm still hunting myself. :)

    And happy early blog birthday!

  6. Congrats on achieving so many resolutions! Enjoy your blog. How did you get to 20,000 views inside one year? Any tips for a fellow film blogger? I've been going since May and only have 2200!!
