March recap

Every month I read my fellow bloggers posts and am shocked by the numbers of the movies they see, but most of all, I am a bit ashamed- I watch only 12-13 movies per month and I call myself a movie blogger?

I just decided to not that think about it- I prefer to watch movies in my own pace and to not be rushed. If I can only do 13 per month, I am ok with it. Plus, these posts are just a way for me to keep track of what I've done throughout the year, so I can see if I accomplised my resolutions!

Anyway, this month was ok (better than February)- I got to read, to go to an amazing concert, discover new music (Maccabees) and book tickets for a fantastic music festival that just happens to be FREE (with an exception of a fee of 2.50 pounds fee, which is nothing- equivalent of 3 cans of Cokes)- BBC Hackney Weekend. Moviewise, I did two mini marathons: one of David Cronenberg films, and the other about the Coen Brothers features.

Here's the list:

Movies
Control[2007]
A history or violence [2005]
Eastern Promises [2007]
A dangerous method [2011]
The Big Lebowski[1998]
Fargo[1996]
A serious man [2009]
True Grit [2010]
Little Miss Sunshine [2006]
Hunger Games [2012]
There will be blood [2007]
Magnolia [1999]
Weekend [2011]

Books: 2

Concerts: Florence and the Machine

I'll have 3 weeks of Spring Break in April, and I am planning to be a busy girl and take advantage of the city, the library, my movie collection and the internet.

Hope you all have a good month!

p.s Am I the only one who hates April 1st and all the joke mania around it! Never liked it, especially in school!

  1. Definitely watch films at your own pace - forcing yourself doesn't make for much fun! When I can't be bothered I always put on an old favourite anyway :)
Looooved Little Miss Sunshine, it's one of my faves! Same with There Will Be Blood!

  2. As a naive person I hate april 1st too. I always get pranked :) Don't worry I do not watch that many movies either, in fact I watch maybe 10-15 a month, tops.

  3. I also sometimes think I don't watch enough movies, but the truth is, there's no such thing as "watching enough movies". It's just no fun if you force yourself to watch movies.
By the way, I'm jealous of you for that concert!

  4. I had a massive watching-spree back in 2010, where, most of the year was just spent with me watching films. Though that time was great, it meant that I missed out on a lot of things that I had to make up for in 2011 - where, incidentally, my time became a lot less free. So as everyone has said here, watch films at your own pace! You can't enjoy them any other way, tbh!

And dammit, man, I wanted to go to that Hackney Weekened, too. Though I have seen Jay-Z live before a few years ago at Alexandra Palace, it would be nice to see him in an open space area. So lucky you!

  5. @Ruth: Although I obviously have favorites, I prefer to almost always watch movies I haven't seen before. I do indulge in guilty pleasure or favorite from time to time, every couple months, or just watch certain scenes I liked from them.
@Sati: Me, too, Sati, I always get pranked, I hate it!
@Mette: That concert was great, I hope you have the opportunity to see it,too! If you like Florence and the Machine, they will broadcast their concert Tuesday, 3rd April, from 7PM UK time on Youtube- it's a benefit or something like that
@Cherokee: I am going on Saturday- I chose that day for 3 main reasons: 1. Florence and the Machine (again), 2. Macabees <3 and 3. Jay Z, mainly because I don't think I would ever pay that much money to see him in concert, so this was a great opportunity to go to his concert- almost free

  6. Hey Diana, I'm with you in that I could only watch about a dozen films per month. I wish I could watch more but ah well, sometimes it's just not possible. That's cool that you got a couple of director's marathons going, oh and btw, you've inspired me to do a monthly movie-watching recap post now :D

  10. As others have said, watch movies when you want to watch them. If they become "assignments" then they stop being fun. I go through bursts where I watch a lot of movies, then droughts where I watch few.

I have the advantage of having seen thousands of movies already, and in not being focused on reviewing new movies, so I always have a review I can write, even if I have not been watching movies for a while.

As for April Fools jokes it's been a long time since I fell for one. I don't play them, but I am amused by the ones that work. Several years ago there was an announcement on the radio that the phone company was going to be "cleaning out the lines" by blowing air through them so people should cover their phones so dust doesn't get all over everything. A co-worker said that his mother fell for it and covered her phone.

  11. @Chip: Oh my god, the air through lines joke worked? wow...that's a bit sad :) Thanks for the comment, I agree that when a movie becomes an assignment, you loose all the fun! Hope you have a great April!
